Live Bee Relocation
Las Vegas, NV

When conditions allow, we capture and relocate live bee colonies to local Nevada beekeepers rather than eliminating them. Humane, ecologically responsible, and available same-day when the colony qualifies for relocation.

When Relocation Is an Option

  • Swarm is less than 48 hours old
  • Colony is in an accessible location
  • Colony is non-Africanized
  • Cooperative situation — low aggression
  • Beekeeper partner is available to receive
  • Spring or fall timing preferred

Las Vegas has lost 40% of its wild bee population. Relocation saves survivors.

The Mojave Desert surrounding Las Vegas depends on bee pollination for dozens of native plant species, from creosote bush to desert willow. Wild bee populations across Nevada have declined significantly over the past two decades due to habitat loss, pesticide use, and the spread of Varroa mite disease. When a European honey bee swarm lands in your backyard in Summerlin or Henderson, it represents a viable, healthy colony that — with the right intervention — can be transferred to a local beekeeper and continue contributing to the regional ecosystem instead of being eliminated.

Live relocation works best for recently arrived swarms in accessible outdoor locations. A swarm is a colony in transition — the queen and thousands of workers have left an overcrowded hive and are temporarily clustering while scout bees search for a permanent home. In this phase, typically 24–72 hours, the colony is relatively docile and can be captured as a unit if approached correctly. We assess each call for relocation viability on the phone before arriving. Not every situation qualifies — particularly in Clark County where Africanized genetics are widespread — but when it does, relocation is always our preferred approach.

If your colony has already built comb and established a permanent hive, see our bee hive removal service for full extraction options. If you are unsure whether the colony is Africanized, visit our Africanized bee removal page for guidance.

Live Bee Relocation FAQ

Bee relocation means the live colony is captured and transferred to a beekeeper or apiary where it continues to survive. Bee removal means the colony is exterminated. Relocation is the preferred outcome for non-Africanized European honey bee colonies that are accessible and recently established. It is genuinely better for pollinators, and the Mojave Desert ecosystem depends heavily on bee populations for native plant reproduction. However, relocation is not always possible — Africanized colonies, colonies inside structures, and large established hives generally require removal.

Sometimes, yes. Live relocation requires additional time, specialized equipment, and coordination with a beekeeper or apiary to receive the colony. For a recent swarm in an accessible location, relocation costs are often comparable to extermination. For established hives that require structural access, the extraction cost is similar regardless of whether the bees are relocated or eliminated — the labor is the same. We provide upfront pricing by phone and will tell you honestly whether relocation is viable for your specific situation.

No. Africanized honey bees cannot be safely relocated to an apiary or beekeeper setting. Their defensive genetics make them unsuitable for managed beekeeping, and relocating them would simply move the danger to another location or put beekeepers at risk. Nevada state guidelines and responsible pest management standards require Africanized colonies to be eliminated rather than relocated. If you are unsure whether the colony on your property is Africanized, call us — we assess the behavior profile on site before deciding on approach.

For eligible colonies — European honey bee swarms less than 48 hours old in an accessible location — live relocation has a high success rate. The colony is captured with the queen intact, transferred to a transport box, and handed off to an established beekeeper in the Clark County area. Spring and early fall are the most successful times for relocation in Las Vegas, as moderate temperatures reduce stress on the colony during transfer. Midsummer relocation during extreme heat requires faster transport and more careful handling.
