Why Summerlin Has One of Las Vegas' Highest Bee Rates
Summerlin is where Las Vegas development ends and the Mojave Desert begins. The Spring Mountains rise immediately to the west, the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area provides protected desert habitat directly adjacent to residential neighborhoods, and the BLM land buffer between development and canyon is minimal in many locations. This makes Summerlin's residential edge a constant interface with wild Africanized bee colonies.
Every spring, overcrowded wild bee colonies split and swarm. The resulting swarms fly east into Summerlin neighborhoods searching for new nesting sites. Scouts evaluate every gap, every weep hole, every soffit opening in the area. The high-density stucco construction and desert-adapted landscaping of Summerlin master communities makes them ideal targets. From March through May, we may respond to 8–12 Summerlin calls on a single day during peak swarm season.
We cover all Summerlin communities and neighboring areas including the Lakes and Peccole Ranch. See our dedicated Summerlin service area page for more community-specific information, or call us now for immediate assistance.
Summerlin Bee Removal FAQ
Summerlin's western location places it directly adjacent to the Spring Mountains National Recreation Area and Bureau of Land Management desert land. This open desert is prime Africanized bee territory, and Summerlin's residential edges back onto it with no buffer. The Red Rock Canyon area in particular hosts established wild bee colonies that routinely swarm into Summerlin neighborhoods each spring. Summerlin's desert landscaping — including lots of flowering shrubs and trees mandated by many HOAs — provides abundant forage that keeps bee populations high throughout the area.
Yes. We serve all Summerlin communities including Summerlin South (89135, 89138, 89144, 89145, 89147), Summerlin Centre, Summerlin North (89134, 89128, 89129), The Ridges, The Hills, Arbors, Trails, and all communities within the Summerlin master plan. We also serve adjacent areas including the Lakes, Peccole Ranch, and other far-west Las Vegas communities.
Summerlin homes share the stucco construction common to Las Vegas, meaning weep screed openings, conduit gaps, and expansion joint cracks are the most common entry points. However, Summerlin's prevalence of two-story homes also makes soffit and second-floor wall infestations common. The Ridges and custom homes in Western Summerlin with more complex rooflines often present multiple potential entry points. We assess and seal all entry points as part of every removal job.
The westernmost Summerlin developments are within 2–5 miles of the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area boundary. The desert washes running east from Red Rock provide direct corridors for bee swarms entering Summerlin communities. The active bee season in Summerlin runs February through October, with peak swarm activity in April and May when colonies divide. During peak season we may serve 5–10 Summerlin addresses in a single day.
